The millions of reasons I voted YES!

There are millions of reasons I have voted yes to marriage equality in Australia. Millions of my fellow Australians identify as LGBTQI+. Not allowing millions of fellow humans the opportunity to marry, simply due to their sexual or gender identity, is absolutely ludicrous to me.

Why did I vote YES to Marriage Equality in Australia? Because equality and freedom from discrimination are basic human rights. Full stop. It really is that simple!

According to the Australian Human Rights Commission, " Around 61% of same-sex attracted and gender-questioning young people said they experienced verbal abuse because of their sexuality, while 18% reported experiencing physical abuse.". This already discriminated community does not need further division, inequality or abuse, voting NO fuels all three.

It is my hope that equality in all forms becomes so natural and normal that the inequality faced by the LGBTQI+ community at this present time flabbergasts future generations. All humans deserve respect, all humans deserve love, all humans deserve freedom, voting YES supports all three.
